Effective Communication Training for the Staff of the Provincial Directorate of Trade

Within the scope of the institutional cooperation protocol signed between Mersin University Continuing Education Application and Research Center (MEUSEM) and the Mersin Provincial Directorate of Trade, in-service training was provided for the staff of the Provincial Directorate.

The training program, held on October 1, 2026, at the MEUSEM classrooms, was delivered by Research Assistant Dr. İbrahim Çataldaş, a faculty member of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising at the Faculty of Communication, Mersin University. The program focused on effective communication and communication processes with citizens. The training covered topics including “Effective Communication, Empathy, Active Listening, Body Language, Conflict and Stress Management, and Communication with Difficult Citizens,” with various communication situations that may arise during the delivery of public services being discussed.

Research Assistant Dr. İbrahim Çataldaş presented communication techniques for managing stressful and challenging interactions in a constructive manner through practical examples. Particular emphasis was placed on developing an empathy-based approach toward citizens who may be angry, insistent, or anxious, maintaining professional communication boundaries, and resolving conflicts before they escalate.

The program also addressed the role of tone of voice, body language, active listening, and stress management in effective communication, while practical approaches aimed at enhancing citizen satisfaction were shared with the participants. The training, attended by staff members of the Provincial Directorate of Trade, concluded with evaluations on strengthening effective and citizen-oriented communication skills in the delivery of public services.
